OpenAI is preparing to introduce a new range of AI agents, set to offer varying capabilities at monthly subscription prices ranging from $2,000 to $20,000.
OpenAI Plans to Launch AI Agents
The most advanced of these OpenAI’s AI agents, designed to handle complex tasks like academic research and software development, will carry a premium cost of $20,000 per month.
These agents are part of OpenAI’s broader plan to expand its AI offerings, with three distinct types anticipated to hit the market. Although specific launch dates and customer eligibility remain unclear, OpenAI has indicated that these products could eventually account for 20% to 25% of its total revenue.
Notably, SoftBank, one of OpenAI’s investors, has committed $3 billion to the development of these agent products in 2025 alone. Despite this backing, OpenAI faced significant financial challenges last year, recording a loss of approximately $5 billion due to operational and service-related expenses.
Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, recently discussed the potential impact of these AI agents, hinting at transformative changes to corporate productivity. Celebrating the second anniversary of ChatGPT, Altman expressed confidence in OpenAI’s progress toward developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a milestone that could reshape the future of work.
OpenAI’s AI agents are its latest effort to stay competitive, amid Elon Musk launching Grok 3, an upgraded version of his AI platform, which he claims is “the smartest AI on Earth.”
