In a big boost for the Indian economy, the financial year 2018-2019 witnessed a striking Rs 91.63 crore jump in the country’s foreign exchange earnings as a result of the launch of foreign satellites. If the recent claim of government is to be believed, the elite Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has managed to earn approximately Rs 1,245.17 crore in the last 5 years’ tenure by launching satellites from 26 countries.
In the financial year 2018-19, the launch income stood at Rs 324.19 crore. Meanwhile, during the same period for the fiscal year 2017-18, the income was at Rs 232.56 crore.
ISRO has inked contracts with 10 countries that may include UK, US, Germany, Canada, The Netherlands, Japan, Malaysia, France, Algeria, and Singapore in the last five years period. The contracts were secured under commercial arrangements.
Union Minister for Atomic Energy and Space Jitendra Singh provided the data on Thursday.
India has managed to put 319 foreign satellites in orbit till now.
Earlier, history was created yesterday when ISRO successfully launched RISAT-2BR1, a radar-imaging earth observation satellite at Sriharikota.
