Avalanche is advancing the concept of off-chain computation services. It has introduced Chainlink Automation 2.0 and Chainlink Functions 1.0 to enable developers to utilize the best of Web3 and bring innovation. Both feature the benefits of being gas-efficient, composable, and verifiable, as developers gain access to the control and flexibility of Web3 applications.
The definitions of Chainlink Automation and Chainlink Functions can be summarized below:-
- Chainlink Automation – It is a smart contract automation solution that brings decentralization and cost-efficiency to the table. It has been identified as a performant and reliable solution
- Chainlink Functions – It is a serverless platform for developers based in Web3, empowering developers to connect smart contracts to an external data source of their preference. Furthermore, it gives developers the ability to run custom computations in minutes
Combined, both features aim to change the app development process in Web3. Importantly, they provide an approximate reduction of 90% in gas costs plus a way to automate and offload Solidity computation off-chain. The serverless developer platform Functions allows developers to unlock the capability of performing custom Javascript computations.
Gabriel Cardona from Ava Labs has said that both products represent that Avalanche is taking the lead by enabling developers to offload Solidity computation with a reduction in gas costs of around 90%. The Developer Evangelist has further stated that they are excited to see how the features help developers unlock true potential as they leverage Avalanche Network along with Chainlink services.
Gabriel has highlighted that Chainlink is an ideal partner in this segment, for the platform has established itself as an industry standard for services pertaining to the integration of real-world data and Web3 dApps.
Harry Papacharissiou from Chainlink Labs is confident that the association with Avalanche will help the community of developers propel the adoption of Web3, hopefully onboarding a billion users at the earliest.
The Developer Advocate Manager has also said that they are excited to see the expansion of their suite to Avalanche’s decentralized services as per their availability. They have added that developers will be encouraged to build applications for the next generation.
Some of the advantages that Chainlink Functions 1.0 brings to the association are:
- Seamless integration
- Cutting-edge technology
- Configurable limits
- Access control
Seamless integration refers to developers conveniently ceasing, funding, and managing subscriptions via the NPM Package. Developers can alternatively choose to write and test functions through the Chainlink Functions Playground in the browser of their preference.
A threshold encryption scheme makes up for cutting-edge technology to enhance the security of APIs in a decentralized manner.
Configurable limits and access control are pretty much what they sound like. Access control gives developers the power to decide who can call their function. Similarly, configurable limits set the track straight for execution time, payload size, number of requests, and other elements.
