Thailand Links Blockchain to e-Visa System for Improved Security

In a bid to boost security, Thailand has decided to integrate blockchain to its Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA). Every year scores of tourists throng the popular Southeast Asian country, which has gained massive popularity for its tropical beaches, magnificent royal palaces, Buddha figures, among others.

The country’s latest blockchain-enabled eVOA system aims to pace up and guard the electronic visa application procedure. It will soon become accessible for over 5 million tourists hailing from 20 countries all across the globe.

eVOA operators are expected to ink a partnership with an Australian travel company for the blockchain-powered service.

According to a press release, the joint effort led by leading Australian travel firm ShareRing and Gateway Services and eVOA operators will help in integrating blockchain to eVOA. The Australian travel firm has acquired the license to process eVOA for Thailand.

If initial reports are to be believed, Thailand is expected to roll out blockchain-powered eVOA service with a sheer emphasis on visitors hailing from India and China.

The latest move by Thailand is slated to streamline the procedure of applying for a country’s visa. Presently, its current Visa On Arrival process is carried out at the airports or at land entry points in Thailand, said Tim Bos, CEO, and Co-founder of ShareRing. The current procedure is quite cumbersome as it is totally paper-based that creates hassles for travelers as they need to bring several documents with them. These documents include printed copies of airline tickets, photos, and accommodation confirmation.  The ongoing process nearly takes an hour to complete, added Bos.

Blockchain technology has emerged quite instrumental in enhancing the security and speed of electronic visa application.

ShareRing is in touch with Gateway Services for boosting speed, security, and process quality added Tim Bos.
