India Withholds Flights from Some Countries to Combat Corona Spread

The Indian government has withheld all international flights from Afghanistan, Malaysia, and the Philippines from entering into the Indian airports. The statement released by the travel advisory reads like,

Travel of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines, and Malaysia to India is prohibited with immediate effect. No flight shall take off from these countries to India after 1500 hours Indian Standard Time (IST). The airline shall enforce this at the port of initial departure.

This advisory came in continuation of the previous travel advisory released by the Indian government on March 11 and March 16, which banned all flights from the UK, Turkey, and EU nations.

As such, the international flight ban is a temporary measure to combat the coronavirus spread and it will be effective from March 18 to March 31 and will be revised afterward if necessary; that will depend on the circumstances.

Air India also canceled all its flights to Kuwait until April 30 and also curtailed its services to various other countries like France, Spain, and Sri Lanka. The move to suspend international flights came into force following the Coronavirus outbreak. The spread compelled the imposition of travel restrictions in various countries across the globe.

Till Tuesday, the number of Covid 19 positive cases rose to 125 in India, with a 64-year-old man dying in Mumbai on Tuesday who was tested positive. This is the third mortality case reported in India. To prevent this further spread and the mortality rates, the government has also ordered to keep schools and other educational institutions closed till the virus effects subside. Most of the offices are allowing their employees to work from their homes at least till March 31.
