A New Sepolia-Anchored Polygon PoS Testnet, Amoy, is Here!

A new testnet, the Amoy testnet for Polygon PoS, will soon be introduced to provide a low-stakes environment for developing, testing, and breaching items. With the Sepolia testnet serving as the root (L1) chain, Amoy will be built on Ethereum. In a sustainable and future-proof ecosystem, developers using Amoy may continue to rely on the availability of critical validators, infrastructure, faucets, tooling, and more.

The root chain of the widely utilized Mumbai testnet for Polygon PoS is the Goerli testnet of Ethereum. As a result, Goerli is relied upon by Mumbai for block production. At present, Goerli is encountering widespread rejection within the Polygon ecosystem. The majority of RPC suppliers have no intention of turning it off.

The prevailing sentiment among members of the community within the Polygon ecosystem is to abandon Mumbai in favor of Goerli.

The Mumbai and Amoy testnets will continue to function independently for an undetermined amount of time in the case that Goerli is deprecated due to its lack of functionality. Consequently, this will guarantee that both consumers and developers experience a seamless transition.

Similar to the situation with Ethereum, Polygon PoS will function as a multi-tested chain for a brief duration.
